This release comes with our initial version of the Plugin Manager! We’ve also made additions and optimizations to NVIDIA RTX filters, and added hybrid MOV support. We are very careful when making updates, and test everything as extensively as we can. OBS updates should leave your settings intact, but it’s possible that something else on your system may have interfered with the update process.

For more in-depth options, see our local recording guide. The quickest way to make sure you have good settings is to use the Tools / Auto Configuration Wizard in OBS. OBS is an open source project, which means the programming code is open for anyone to look at or improve, so you can see exactly how it works.

• This is the bounding box, and can be used to position sources within the preview as well as make the source larger or smaller.
• Activating Studio Mode allows you to change your Scenes in the background without your viewers being able to see you making those changes.
• When a Source is selected in the Sources list, you will see a red box that shows up around it.
• This will not cover everything, but will be an overview of the basics and what you can do in each section.
• Clicking the eye icon next to an added filter will enable/disable that filter, similar to showing/hiding a source.
• Some can even flag the behavior, falsely, as malicious.

The quality on my stream or recording is bad! How can I fix it?

• Set up an unlimited number of scenes you can switch between seamlessly via custom transitions.
• Monitor 8 different scenes and easily cue or transition to any of them with merely a single or double click.

Set hotkeys for nearly every sort of action, such as switching between scenes, starting/stopping streams or recordings, muting audio sources, push to talk, and more. If you are recording, try using Simple output mode and the recording presets. If you have an available hardware encoder, try to use that for your recordings.

Since the OBS Contributors are a small group, we can only test against the hardware and software that we have available. If we do make a mistake with an update, you can bet we’ll be on top of it, honest about it, and correct it as soon as we can. Stop by our Community Chat if you need more assistance. You can switch the currently active Transition with the drop-down menu and change its duration.

Audio

The macOS release of OBS Studio supports macOS 12.0 and newer. The Windows release of OBS Studio supports Windows 10 and 11.

I updated and now nothing in OBS is working, what happened?

If your distro is not already set up to install Flatpaks, you can follow the instructions here. OBS Studio is officially distributed as a Flatpak on Flathub and a PPA for Ubuntu 24.04 and newer. For other installation methods, including unofficial packages, click here.

If you later on change the Base (Canvas) Resolution of OBS Studio, you will have to re-align or re-size the sources. Changing the Output (Scaled) Resolution does not have this effect. It’s strongly recommended that you test everything as best as you can before starting your first live stream. This can help work out any kinks or performance issues you might be having ahead of time, and save the embarrassment of any issues on the stream itself. However, even if you don’t have any previous experience, don’t be discouraged!

Streamlined Settings panel gives you access to a wide array of configuration options to tweak every aspect of your broadcast or recording. To use joysticks as hotkeys on Linux and Windows, you can use antimicro to map the joystick keys to common keyboard keys and then use them in OBS. Overall, most settings will be fairly self-explanatory. This will not cover everything, but will be an overview of the basics and what you can do in each section.
